Long flights can get tiring. You are sitting in the same chair for x amount of time. What can you do besides sitting down in a chair? There are many things to do other than sleep.
I came up with a few tips to prepare you for your next long flight to be comfortable and make the most out of your flight.
1.) Stay hydrated and bring snacks.
Drinking water throughout your flight is very significant; the air in the airplane is dry and can damage your skin. Also, I recommend drinking orange juice to get some Vitamin C. This drink will also help with hydration. It may take up to an hour until you get your next meal or snack on the plane, so bring plenty of snacks for you to eat; whenever you get hungry.
2.) Bring travel-size skin-care products on the plane.
As I stated in the first tip, the air circulation in the airplane can dry out your skin. It is relevant to moisturize your face with a face mask or a night cream to keep the skin moisturized and looking fresh. Also, bring your face moisturizer to keep your face protected from the sun's UV rays through the window and to keep your skin hydrated.
3.) Watch movies on your flight or download movies to your electronic device.
The majority of the airlines have free movies to enjoy; throughout your flight. Take advantage of seeing all of the shows and movies; that are on your must-see list. Depending on the airline that you are taking, having to purchase Wi-Fi on the plane is expensive and not worth it, in my opinion. You can save time by having all of your favorite shows and movies downloaded onto your tablet or laptop. You can choose from any streaming device such as Netflix, Hulu, Prime video, etc.
4.) Have all of your electronics charged and bring a portable charger for your cellphone.
Bring your cell phone charger with you on the plane; you never know when you may need to use it for any emergency. Have all of your electronic devices charged during the flight. You will need it for when you land at your destination to get to your hotel or your place of stay.
5.) Bring anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizers.
The planes are dirty and full of germs. Use anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizers to wipe down your arm-rests, seat belt, seat tray, etc. A somewhat sanitized area should help you relax and rest a little bit easier, especially on a long flight.
6.) Bring a book to read or some compact games.
If you get tired of watching movies throughout your flight, bring something to read. By reading a book, it gives your eyes a break from screen time, plus you learn something new along the way. If you are traveling with someone or with children, you can bring accessible games such as a deck of cards or Bananagrams.
7.) Wear comfortable clothes.
You should always wear comfortable clothes when traveling, especially for a long time. It makes your experience on a long flight more enjoyable, as well as going through TSA much smoother. The temperature on a plane is rarely comfortable for everyone. However, you might be freezing, while the person a few rows away may find it too warm. I would also recommend packing some layers, like a sweater, so that you can adjust as the temperature changes on the plane. Also, pack some cozy socks, too, but don't go into the bathroom in just your sock feet – put your shoes on!
8.) Bring a neck pillow and a blanket.
Not all of the airlines provide blankets, so you might want to bring your own or at least a cozy sweater. Bring a neck pillow so you will have a soft spot to rest your head. By having a neck pillow, you won't wake up with neck pain. Be comfortable and cozy during your flight.
9.) Pack some motion-sickness pills.
I learned this the hard way while traveling to Hong Kong. It was my first time traveling to Asia. I didn't know what to do throughout a long flight when you felt sick. Since I didn't have any medication with me, I used the paper bag that was by my seat. Just in case you experience motion sickness during your flight, take some motion sickness pills to ease the dizziness or nausea, or urge to vomit.
10.) Stretch and move around the flight.
Some people can sit the whole flight and be comfortable with it. I'm not like that. I need to stretch out my legs every hour. Also, I stretch whenever I have to go to the bathroom. My butt would hurt from sitting the whole flight. You have to move around; stretch your muscles. Stretching allows your muscles to be loose and not feel tight. It also provides blood flow to move around your body.
11.) The best seats to choose from are the aisle or window seat.
Lastly, take photos of the views from your window. You are at a high altitude in the air and can see breathtaking scenes of the clouds, the sunrise, sunset, the ocean, and the moon and the stars. If you prefer more legroom, I would recommend getting the aisle seat. You have a bit more legroom; easy to go to the bathroom or stretch.
I hope these tips are helpful for the next adventure! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! Keep exploring!
