Hello, my fellow explorers,
It's been quite a long time since I wrote a post on here. So to start the new year, I wanted to talk about some lessons I learned throughout this pandemic so far. There are five lessons I have learned so far. I'll update the post with anything new I learn going through this year.
1.) Some things are out of your control; you can only control your feelings - I felt lost for a while throughout this pandemic, especially getting laid off towards the end of 2020. Even though it wasn't my fault, I kept replaying in my head if I had only done this, this wouldn't have happened. In reality, things happen for a reason, whether we know the reason at the moment, later in life, or sometimes we'll never know the answer. The only thing we have control of is our feelings. We can control our reaction to any situation, good or bad.
2.) Explore all possibilities- When you feel lost, you'll feel discouraged. However, it's okay to feel lost because this gives you the chance to explore new hobbies or interests and transform them into passions. Maybe this experience of getting laid off was for me to rediscover some hobbies that I neglected because of working, one of those hobbies was baking. I loved baking when I was a kid, but it gets pretty challenging to balance all of that while studying in college and then working. Another hobby is going back to writing on my blog.
3.) Life is Short- as cliche as this saying goes, it couldn't be more accurate, especially in the environment that we're in right now. Over the past two years of the pandemic, we've seen many people who passed away. Many had dreams that they wanted to fulfill but didn't get the chance because they kept pushing their goals for the "right time." Unfortunately, those people got taken away too soon. I can talk about this from a personal experience because this happened in my family.
A cousin of mine in Colombia passed away at the age of 41. His dream was to go to America to visit us with his family and for his daughter to work and gain experience. The moral of the story is to not wait for the right moment to do something that you've always wanted to try because you never know when it'll be your last.
4.) Don't Hold Grudges- We shouldn't hold grudges with anyone because it's not hurting them; you're just hurting yourself. You're giving yourself unnecessary stress and wasting energy focusing on the negative instead of resolving the issue and turning it into a positive.
5.) Celebrate all your accomplishments, no matter how big or small- Give yourself the credit you deserve, no matter how big or small your goals. Each goal is worth celebrating. I was reflecting on these past two years, and I didn't realize that I had made quite a lot of accomplishments. Here are some of my accomplishments:
I started hiking during the summer of 2020 since only a few outdoor activities provided social distancing. I explored more of my home state. I picked up new hobbies such as cooking, flower arranging, baking, and kickboxing. I connected and reconnected with old and new friends, making fond memories. I started to get back into writing on my blog again. Finally, towards the end of 2021, I understood myself a bit more, listening to my body and understanding my emotions.
As the year 2022 begins, I'll see what this year has in store for me and the lessons I'll learn along the way. Stay tuned for a 2022 goals post!
See you, next time explorers!
Love,
E
