Latin music started to come to the USA, during the 1990's. I have always listened to Latin music, since I was a little girl. However, I did not fully appreciate and understand the music, until I got older. My mother's side of the family is Colombian. I have spent all my life with my mother's side of the family. In any type of occasion, there is always Latino music playing at my grandparents house. Spanish is their first language and they enjoy that type of music, especially Colombian music. Music created the ability to connect with other people, if we are not able to communicate with words. Below are some of the artists that I enjoy listening to and dancing to their music.
Some of the artists that I enjoy listening to are; Carlos Vives, Shakira, J Balvin, Manuel Turizo, Calema (Portuguese),Juanes, CNCO, Prince Royce, Chino y Nacho, Romeo Santos, Luis Fonsi, Leslie Grace, Jesse y Joy, Alejandro Sanz, Gente de Zona, Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, and Enrique Iglesias. I also enjoy listening to classical Latin music from Julio Iglesias, Juan Garbiel, Jose Jose, Luis Miguel , and Celia Cruz, just to name a few.
The majority of these artists belong to the Latin Pop genre, but I also like the classic music such as vallenato. I love the way Latinos incorporate reggae, salsa, bachata, urban, banda, and up-tempo rhythms into their music, while mixing these elements with contemporary music.
One of the reasons why I enjoying listening to Latin music is that I can dance to the music as well as listen to it. I have traveled to two countries in Latin America. They are Colombia and Cuba. Each country has their own style of music, but the up-tempo rhythms do not change. As I mentioned earlier, some of Colombia's famous music include; vallenato, cumbia, porro, and currulao. For Cuba, some of their famous music include; Afro-Cuba jazz, and salsa.
I got to visit three countries in Latin America; Colombia, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. It is a different experience to listen to music in the home country rather than through a device. When I listen to Latin music, I am always ready to dance. There is always a dance for any Latin song, whether it is slow and romantic or fast and up-beat.
I highly recommend that you check out these artists and their music. You will feel like you have traveled back in time and be moving to the beat.
